If you have them you will know it because you see swarms of them around sundown, and they are super annoying. Spraying insecticides will kill any gnats that the chemicals touch but eventually the eggs are going to hatch and you’re right back to square one because you’re not dealing with the problem the right way. I’m Melissa from NorthlineExpress and today I will tell you about an all-natural way to rid your life of gnats indoors and out.

Mosquito Barrier will allow you to kill gnats that are resting in grass, flying about annoying you, and most importantly gnat larvae before it hatches! Gnats have a short life with one purpose, to breed and lay hundreds of eggs. Gnat eggs are hatched in water similar to mosquitoes and they do not need a lot of water to do it. Most gnat problems are actually caused by over watering your lawn.

Mosquito Barrier does not contain chemicals; it is 100% all natural and safe for pets, humans, and plants. It’s made of highly concentrated garlic juice. So what you will need to treat your area for gnats and their larvae is mosquito barrier (available in quarts and gallons), liquid dish detergent, a pressure sprayer, and water.

To mix the solution that you will use you will add 12 ounces of mosquito barrier and 2 tablespoons of the liquid dish detergent for each gallon of water. Once you have your solution mixed it is time to apply it. With gnats you will easily spot where you will need to spray because you will see large amounts of gnats hovering above where they were hatched. Usually this area is a 10’ x 10’ area not your entire lawn unless you notice multiple hatch zones. On each hatch zone, hold your sprayers wand about 10-12” from the ground and spray the mixture deep into the grass.

Once you apply your barrier mixture for gnats you want to make sure that you are not watering your lawn too soon causing what you just did to be undone. It is recommended that you wait 48 hours before watering your lawn after application. The same applies for the weather, before you apply the mixture check the forecast! If it is calling for rain within 48 hours it is best to wait until the weather will allow for application without rain right away.

This gnat treatment with mosquito barrier will typically last for 2-4 weeks, possibly longer if conditions are drier. You will not need to re-spray the mixture until you are noticing gnat activity returning.

We’ve covered outdoor gnats but sometimes we find that gnats can become a problem indoors as well. Most indoor gnat problems are considered indoor fungus gnats and are from house plants. You can use mosquito barrier to eliminate the indoor gnats just by adding it when watering your plants. When watering your indoor plants, add 1 ounce of mosquito barrier for each quart of water required to water your plants.
